Over at Amazon, they’re running a one-day deal on select styles of Kershaw Blur assisted-opening folding pocket knives.
This is one of the most highly regarded folding pocket knives at the ~$50 price point, and it’s made in the USA. I’m a big Kershaw fan, and it’s rare for me to find anything about their knives to complain about.

Specs include a 3.4″ blade length, 4.5″ closed length, 3.9 oz weight, and reversible pocket clip. Kershaw’s SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism allows for quick opening with a push of the thumb stud.
This is an assisted-opener, not an automatic knife, and so it shouldn’t be a problem. Still, always be aware of your local knife laws if you carry a knife for work or recreation.
I should also warn you. If this will be your first “real” pocket knife, the taste of quality might leave you wanting more. My Kershaw Leek knife (reviewed here) was a gateway knife for me, despite my owning several folding pocket knives (mainly Gerber) before.

These days, I prefer 3″ blade length knives, flipper knives, and manual openers. But if I had a $50 or less budget, and wanted the biggest bang for the buck, this would be my pick.
I couldn’t pass up the deal, and ordered one (plain edge blade, black handle) as a shop knife (and for eventual ToolGuyd review).
